Costa Rica is one of the safest countries of Central and South America. There are police in most areas of the country. Like all countries, when living or touring, travel in pairs, don’t go down dark alleys and keep your hands on your bag and or purse. Also, don’t flash money and don’t wear expensive jewelry or watches. Register with your embassy and let them know your itinerary. Let your group know where you are going and coordinate with everyone. Use common sense at home or when travelling.
